Hyperthermia Management

Hyperthermia is a term related to the overheating of a human being. Opposite hypothermia, the condition refers to the afflicted persons ability to self-regulate core body temperature above normal body temperature. Almost 500,000 individuals each year perish from the condition.

If a human’s core temperature rise above its ability self-regulate and off-load excess heat, then the afflicted will suffer heat related illness (HRI). Without intervention, the afflicted will perish or suffer physical/phycological consequences.

Hyperthermia management is the process of rapidly reducing body temperature in acute situations. Procedures and processes to reduce core temperature vary dependent on the physical location and/or emergency cooling systems available.

Too cold is hypothermia. Too hot is hyperthermia.
